Ang koo kueh or ang koo kuih is a type of cake or snack in Malaysia. Ang koo kueh has its origin from Baba and Nyonya (better known as Peranakan). The culture of Baba and Nyonya or Peranakan in Malaysia is mainly Chinese and a mix of Malay custom as they are also part-Malay.

Why is this cake or snack called “ang koo”? Its because its normally made to resemble a red turtle shell. In Hokkien, a local Chinese dialect, “ang” means red and “koo” means turtle. Ang koo has a chewy soft skin that is made out of glutinous rice flour. It is usually filled with sweetened green bean paste.
